Milk and Opium
by Turid Zarse
There was a big crowd in the Zoopalast today, when I arrived there to watch the premiere of the indish film “Milk and Opium”. It was hard to find a seat in this throng. When I had finally made it, the film was right about to start and the curtain went up for “Milk and Opium”.
In a little village in the middle of India it is all about music. There is not much to do for children, so Swaroop is glad that he´s allowed to go on tour with his cousin and his friends to make music in other villages and towns.
But after a while they argue and split up. Swaroop is all on his own now…

It is clear to see that the director wanted to make a musicfilm. There are only a few scenes without enthusiastic singing, drumming or dancing. One performance follows the other, so that the story gets a bit of a raw deal. on the other hand, the musical talent of the actors is amazing!

A little exhausting for the eyes were all the close-ups, but they were matched by real nice shots of landscapes and buildings.
All in all a nice film.

After the premiere, the 15-year-old main actor surprised the audience with a (loud and long) live performance.
