Opinions

An Australian legend about a Dog that unites a small community of miners, retold with humorous and breathtaking scenes. Beautiful panorama pictures of Western and South Australia aided by a large number of fitting music, that also portray emotions.

An absolutely beautiful setting (Western Australia) with great wide shots and good-to-brilliant acting. Mainly seventies rock music which gives the movie a "chilled" atmosphere. Further more, the camera and lighting was very well done, and the humorous remarks of the old aussie workers give the viewer the feeling of being connected with each one of the characters.

“What’s wrong with the dog? Are you his master?” “No no, he has no master. Not now. That’s not just any dog in there you know? Oh no, he’s a famous dog. He’s probably the most famous dog in Australia. Red Dog.”

Dampier, Western Australia, 1971. At Hamersely Iron it's easy to earn a fast buck, which is why it attracts workers from all over the world: From Poland, Italy, Greece, the USA, and even from Melbourne. They toil away in the blazing sun by day, and talk about home or get into fights in the evening. When Red Dog turns up, their own dog's life comes to an end: The workmates become friends, the roughnecks are transformed into proud family fathers, and the trailer park becomes a real home.
